View from Ramallah reaction
SIR: Having faithfully been reading the AR since 1986, I had to swallow your anti-Israeli attitude, all through the last years. It was apparent in your Middle East issue where Israeli projects were completely neglected. But this last issue (AR May 2002) has gone too far. Is Europe entering a new dark-age period? (Your opinion might change if you suffered from Islamic terrorism.)
Do you really feel you have enough information to judge who are the bad guys? Do you really think that your professional magazine is the right arena to deal with complicated political matters? You might want to show the destruction (and death) created by the Palestinian terror? Why don't you write about the little Israeli girl who is now alone, after her mother, father, brother and sister were all killed by a suicide bomber? Or the woman who is now alone, after her husband, son and daughter were killed this way? Or the rest of about 500 Israeli families that were destroyed during the last year and a half?
How dare you compare Auschwitz to a stand of sunglasses that fell (or was maybe even thrown) to the ground? Are you completely out of your mind? Both sets of my grandparents (all 4) were massacred in the Second World War.
I suggest that the AR should keep itself to cultural architectural debates only.
Yours etc
