ENGINEERING A CREDIT
SIR: I have always found it disappointing that despite the general excellence of your review far better than what we get on this side of the Atlantic Rift you so fully neglect engineering and engineers. So much you miss.
But to read (alas after a busy year I am finally getting through my piles) the piece on the MIT Simmons Hall (AR January 2004, p36) on which we did our fair share and see not just no account of its unusual structure (it is MIT my alma mater and we did do things in unexpected ways) but a complete misattribution of the structure to Yolles. Ah, now that is going too far. I know for sure that Holls office sends out good and accurate materials so this must only be your doing. Why? Is it a Commonwealth thing? You! royalists? For all the care elsewhere there must be a secret reason.
As Barbara Kruger used to say just cause youre not paranoid doesnt mean theyre not after you. Do try to get it right in the future.
Yours etc
