MUSEUMS IN THE 21ST CENTURY: CONCEPTS, PROJECTS, BUILDINGS
18 June - 14 September 2008
In connection with Louisiana’s 50th anniversary in 2008 we are showing an exhibition about the latest developments in museum architecture. Museum-building is in more than one sense an expression of our wealth, just as centuries-old palaces and cathedrals testify to the finest that our culture has to offer.

The exhibition presents 25 of the world’s ongoing or future museum projects, and the aim is to illustrate the most important tendencies emerging in museum architecture right now, and to mark out the paths the museums of the future will be taking over the next few decades. The story will be told by means of the exhibition design and models, samples of materials, photographs, films, animations and other visual media. In many ways Louisiana itself was a source of inspiration for the museum concept of the late twentieth century, in terms of architecture as well as other features.

With the status that museum-building has today, the exhibition is at the same time an overview of some of the finest projects from the best international architectural offices active at present. North America and Europe are still in the grip of a veritable building boom in the museum area; China and other parts of the world are on their way; and museum architecture is often used to project an image of organizations, cities, regions or countries – several examples will be given in the exhibition.

The is organized in coorporation with Art Centre Basel, Switzerland.
