CREATIVE RESOURCE EXHIBITION
16 July - 29 September 2008
Launchpad Gallery
Free entry

A must-see for anyone interested in sustainable design and materials, this exhibition brings together products from around the world that show the creative potential of materials made from the things we used to throw away. Visitors can see products from internationally renowned designers like Philippe Starck and Tom Dixon and over 200 new materials which come from many unexpected sources, including recycled coffee grounds, currency, mobile phones, swimming pool covers and airplane windscreens. Designer products include furniture, electronics, textiles and even a coffin, all made from waste materials.

The exhibition is part of a lively debate about sustainable development and draws on the experiences of designers, manufacturers and people with a broad awareness of sustainable issues to suggest several routes through the complex field of sustainable design by exploring the creative and economic potential of recycled materials.

The exhibition has been researched and produced by Jakki Dehn M.des.RCA; furniture designer and reader in Product and Furniture Design at Kingston University, an internationally recognised specialist on recycled and sustainable materials. Her investigation into the development of materials made from waste started in 1994 and she has since built up a unique library of over 800 sustainable material samples. The recent Creative Resource research was funded with an Arts and Humanities Research Council award.
