In the forthcoming touring exhibition Danish Architecture Centre poses the question how do architects and engineers actually engage in global development and do they recognise the need for corporations to take on their share of social and ethical responsibility for the world?
Through a number of cases on Danish construction projects abroad the exhibition displays architects’ and engineers’ current ideas for solutions that contribute to greater human dignity and sustainable living conditions. Just like architects and engineers have played a significant part in the construction of the welfare societies in Scandinavia, they today play a part in changing and improving the physical conditions for people all over the world.
The range of problems and challenges the architects and engineers embrace in the exhibition show the way forward for sustainable business management. They aim both to build sustainably and with respect towards the environment and the climate. But they also aim to conduct their business in such a way as to enhance the dignity and welfare of people all over the world.
Those days have gone when to discard the ecological footprint of the construction business, the exploitation of migrant workers, or the development induced displacement of people was acceptable. Today architects and engineers are obliged to look for sustainable solutions. And they must tolerate our investigations into their business and our interest in the extent to which they conduct their business in a socially and ethically responsible way.
