TALL EMBLEM STRUCTURE FOR ZA/ABEEL PARK, DUBAI

Dubai Municipality and ThyssenKrupp Elevator announce the launch of a
International, open, single stage, public, anonymous, preliminary design competition
for the conception of a tall emblem structure, to promote the new face of Dubai.
In conformity with the UIA-UNESCO regulations for international competitions, the
competition has been approved by the UIA.
Located within the Za’abeel Park the structure should promote tourism, have a unique
state of the art design, include cultural and leisure activities, conference and theatre
facilities. Local climatic conditions should be taken into account, as well as urban and
landscape aspects, passive construction principles should be applied and the structure
should respond to the seismic constraints of the region.
The following prizes will be awarded: a first prize of US$100 000, a second of US$50 000
in addition to three prizes of US$20 000 each.
JURY
The international jury is composed of: S.A. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
Chairman of Dubai Municipality; H.E. Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai
Municipality; Javier del Pozo Portillo, Chairman of ThyssenKrupp Elevator Business,
Southern Europe, Africa & Middle East and the following architects: Jaime Duró y Pifarre,
former President of the International Union of architects, Rafael de la Hoz Castanys,
Dalila ElKerdany, Nabil Gholam, Zaha Hadid, Imad Hassan, Josep Luis Mateo, Tarek
Naga, Antonio Ortíz García, Alfonso Vegara, Cino Zucchi.

PARTICIPATION
The competition is open to architects and teams of architects worldwide who have the
right to practice the profession in their countries. Registration will be carried out on-line at a
dedicated web site:

There is no registration fee. The competition language is English.
