GKD – MEDIAMESH®
Europe's biggest media façade erected in Milan. In the middle of the Piazza del Duomo right next door to Milan Cathedral, the largest MEDIAMESH® installation so far accomplished is a truly impressive sight. Measuring almost 480 square meters, this medialised cladding of a construction site scaffolding acts as a platform for city information, adverts and live transmissions. The total renovation of Milan's former city hall provided the opportunity for this unique art-and-culture event.

GKD – Tigris
Robust and adapted to the townscape: fulfilling the double requirement of lending an attractive exterior to a heating and power station in Brixen and protecting it against vandalism the Italian Modus Architects decided on a metal mesh façade. As a highlight, a skating ramp was installed on the roof of the building, with the skaters protected from falling off by the double walls of mesh panels.
Other special attributes:
A total of 975 square meters of stainless steel mesh type Tigris - finished with sloped edges and dynamic asymmetrical cuts of the material - create a light, transparent counterpoint to the massive character of the building. At night, a customized LED lighting system illuminates the metal mesh cladding, reflecting the processes inside the plant.

GKD – Escale bronze
Copper, transparency, light: these three significant features of Munich's new main synagogue characterize the award-winning design by architects Wandel Höfer Lorch. The jury of the 13th Copper in Architecture Awards was particularly impressed by the "deceptively simple elegance" of the monumental structure and voted the synagogue Winner Europe 2007.
Other special attributes:
A major contribution to the transparent, light look of the structure's exterior is the veil of woven metal mesh that completely envelopes the upper glass body of the building. For this application, GKD developed a customized version of its mesh type Escale. The specially widened spirals of the mesh artistically visualize the motif of the Star of David and shimmer by day and by night in the warm brown tones of the coppery bronze mesh surface.

GKD – ILLUMESH®
Innovative, dynamic, modern: three catchwords which sum up the qualities of the mesh system ILLUMESH® – and now also apply to the Atelier Relais in Torcé. In the world's first implementation of ILLUMESH®, an administrative building in Torcé's business park has been transformed into an illuminated eye catcher. Visible from miles away, it is a fascinating sight. The woven metal mesh, with LED profiles mounted in front of it that light up the façade indirectly, was developed by GKD and the company ag4 media facade GmbH.
Other special attributes:
Like two huge monitors, two ILLUMESH® surfaces set the building at the center of attention. While the left façade, measuring 67 square meters, is only equipped with a single LED profile at the top and at the bottom, the 100 square meter façade on the right has 10 LED profiles in all. At night, the transparent media façade is programmed to display fascinating color effects. During the day, the offices behind the façade have a clear view outwards, while from outside the building takes on a shimmering metallic look.

GKD – Omega 3320
A steely monolith for Málaga: the new building of Málaga's regional government has been clad in a magic veil, a 16,000 square meter outer shell of stainless steel wire mesh. Architect Luis Machuca chose the GKD mesh type Omega 3320 for the second skin of his long, stretched out construction. The mesh facade gives the building an ever-changing character as it interacts with sunlight during the day and accentuated lighting at night.
Other special attributes:
GKD's stainless steel wire mesh also functions as highly effective sun protection, helping to control room climate in the offices inside. Installing the facade was quick and easy thanks to the use of aluminum profiles and round profiles inserted into the mesh. The Diputación de Málaga is part of a complex of buildings which creates a link to Málaga's southern quarter and the new waterside promenade.
Intended applications: facades, wall claddings, suspended ceilings |

GKD – Xinghai
A golden veil for Beijing's new concert house. Paul Andreu designed the new Chinese National Grand Theater that will be completed at the end of September 2007. One of the elements inside this "Pearl of Beijing", under a titanium-glass dome, is the Beijing Opera, whose interior façade was clad with 5,400 square meters of a GKD special mesh. Xinghai is a golden-coloured mesh with stainless steel warp wires and aluminum weft wires anodized in two different golden colour tones.
Other special attributes:
The colonnades behind the gold shimmering façade remain visible through the transparent mesh curtain, with the mesh also acting as safety balustrading. 123 columns clad in reinforced and lacquered Baltic mesh provide a fascinating visual counterpoint.

GKD – Baltic
With a newly built production hall at its headquarters in Düren, GKD has increased its production area of over 20,000 square meters by a further 2,200 square meters. In this way the technical weaver has consolidated production processes, can react flexibly to increased demands and has created space for the new MEDIAMESH® production. Upstairs there is a customer center with the latest conference electronics. Access to the upper floor is via a staircase tower clad with shimmering Baltic mesh.
Other special attributes:
The 7.50 meter high, distinctive tower now gives the company headquarters a unique new look, while at the same time serving as a calling card and a reference for woven metal meshes of the brand CreativeWEAVE™. The cladding, measuring 140 square meters in all, was woven in a single piece and tensioned horizontally in a cylindrical shape. Inside there is an almost completely unsupported spiral staircase which gives visitors the chance to experience the functional advantages of the mesh for themselves: no drafts, almost no rain penetration as well as noise reduction.
Intended applications: interior and outside applications |

GKD – Lago
A company tower building with a unique feature. The headquarters of the Turkish pharmaceuticals concern Abdi Ibrahim Pharmaceuticals is located in Istanbul in an exposed area. The building was designed by Dante O. Benini & Partners and completely clad in GKD wire mesh type Lago. The mesh protects the glass façade behind it and at the same time functions as semi-transparent sun protection for the offices inside.
Other special attributes:
The roof sail made of Tigris mesh, which undulates downwards like a waterfall, is a real eye-catcher and at the same time provides sun protection for the roof terraces. The spectacular tip of the high-rise building shines out high above the roofs of the city, especially because of the integrated panel of MEDIAMESH® – developed by GKD and ag4 media facade GmbH. MEDIAMESH® makes it possible to focus attention on the headquarters during the day with a medialized company logo, and by night with videos.

GKD – MEDIAMESH®
MEDIAMESH® at a dizzy height. The world's highest outdoor application of this stainless steel wire mesh with integrated LEDs – developed by GKD and ag4 media facade GmbH – has now been accomplished in Istanbul. The architects Dante O. Benini & Partners chose MEDIAMESH® as the highlight for the roof of the multi-story headquarters of the Turkish pharmaceutical company Abdi Ibrahim Pharmaceuticals. The square media façade was installed 130 meters up on top of the company building.
Other special attributes:
MEDIAMESH® transforms a 28 square meter mesh surface area into an eye-catching presentation screen – visible even from kilometers away. During the day, it features the blue company logo, while at night, MEDIAMESH® makes it possible to draw attention to the building with various videos.

GKD – Escale 5x1
Two parabolic mirrors as façade elements. A concave wire mesh façade now decorates the front of the congress center Eurogress Aachen. 14 panels of GKD stainless steel wire mesh were installed in freestanding frames on the front of the building. In this way, architect Bert Haller has given the Eurogress a new face to cover the old glass façade.
Other special attributes:
GKD wire meshes have already been used inside the building for the shimmering, color-illuminated wall cladding of the Europasaal concert hall. Now, about 400 square meters of Escale 5x1 spiral mesh also give the exterior a visual upgrade. The special feature of the installation are the LED spotlights set into the ground which illuminate the façade from below in a spectacular range of colors.

GKD – Sambesi
Car park enhancement made by GKD. As part of the transformation of a public car park in St. Louis/USA into its own customer car park, the Federal Reserve Bank decided on a façade made of GKD stainless steel wire mesh. The aim was to prevent undesired glimpses into the interior and at the same to improve the looks of the building. The 10 levels were clad in over 5,000 square meters of shimmering Sambesi mesh.
Other special attributes:
The façade optimizes the air circulation inside the car park and prevents the drafts that typically occur in such structures. At the same time, the mesh acts as an effective safety balustrade for humans and cars. A total of 18 Sambesi mesh panels create a surface which can be transparent or opaque, depending on how the sunlight falls on it or how it is illuminated at night. The façade thus promotes the car park to a permanent state of exciting visual interaction with its surroundings.
Intended applications: ceiling, façade, balustrade, railing |
