Voestalpine, Linz, Austria by Dietmar Feichtinger Architects

Dietmar Feichtinger Architects have completed this building for Voest Steelworks, a new finance and sales head office in Linz, Austria

The urban planning concept and the design of the buildings  were carried out by Dietmar Feichtinger Architects, following a competition between several top-rank designers.

The structure is built of reinforced concrete, flanked on the open edges by planted embankments, naturally cross-ventilated and lit from planted atriums and broken up into almost domestic proportions by glass walls.

The main entrance to the office lies below a cantilever at the north-eastern end of the building. A glazed foyer directs views towards the landscape of cranes, waste heaps and chimneys.

Meeting rooms on the top floor are surrounded by glass walls and open to the sky, whilst rooms on the ground floor have a more ‘delicate’ glass facade.

Well done Dietmar Feichtinger Architects! This project is very interesting. I like how it looks as if it’s flying into the sky! I would like to see how the loads are carried structurally in this huge cantilever.

Certainly a dynamic form, intelligently conceived and from what I derive from the images and text well excecuted. It looks like it does for the client what it says on the tin.
