Cinema and Theatre, Fafe, Portugal by GLCS

Fafe

The aim of this project, completed in October 2009 by GLCS Arquitectos, was to restore the 20th Century theatre and provide a new state-of-the-art cinemaGLCS

The first task was to repair and restore the existing theatre. Next, the  architects designed a modern extension to house a cinema, music school, dressing-rooms and administration facilities.

There was also a third element to the project - the glazed building skin which covers all but the existing theatre facade. This was designed to act as a buffer zone for thermal cooling and heating.

A new public square was also set out to the side of the building. The transparent skin which hugs the building allows visitors to read the new and old buildings at the same time.
