First and third-year students from Tom Emerson (of practice 6a), Ingrid Schröder and Max Beckenbauer’s Studio 2 from the Department of Architecture at The University of Cambridge designed this cardboard structure for a banquet on the 23 October to celebrate the new term
After a workshop by paper product designer Rentaro Nishimura, third years set about designing the structure to house 80 people, while first years designed furniture.
The project, an introduction to a year-long unit based on ‘bricolage,’ encouraged the students to think about architecture and limitations - in this case the material capability and time.

This is so impressive. It reminds me of the roof at the Yokohama Ferry Terminal (FOA).
To see a school still pushing students to create on such a large scale is so refreshing - I didn’t even think Cambridge was still running a part I course, so I am quite taken aback at the quality of this.
