IMAM, Madrid, Spain by nodo17 Arquitectos

IMAM

This is the newly opened  IMAM  - Women’s Institute and Municipal Archive - building in Madrid, Spain

IMAM

This design was the winning entry for a competition which called for new facilities for the Women’s Institute and also the city’s Municipal Archive.

IMAM

By lifting parts of the building up on stilts, public space is created and connects the nearby Colon Street and Ricardo Medem Street.

IMAM

Although serving two functions, the building is conceived as one mass. Courtyards coming off the public walkway take natural daylight into the deep plan of the building.

IMAM

The competition brief called for the facade of a former casino to be rebuilt (see picture below). Galvanised steel plates were used on the facade.

IMAM

The architects’ wanted to create a ‘raw’ building, so the structure and services have been left exposed.
