Centrala Designers have designed this water treatment plant on the Vistula River in Warsaw. The temporary interactive installation opened two days ago as part of the SYNCHRONICITY art and architecture festival in Warsaw, and as part of a rejuvenation programme for the river.
The plant, which recycles polluted river water into drinking water, uses energy provided by people exercising on the various equipment on the floating island.
The process, which uses kinetic energy to pump water through four filters, is supposed to show how efficient humans can be in cleaning up the river. The designers also add, ‘Many Poles, even after twenty years of liberalization, still don’t believe in their own potential as individuals or members of communities, in positively changing their life environment.’
