Regeneration & Masterplanning winner FXFOWLE Architects
Nordhavnen regeneration, Copenhagen, Denmark for City of Copenhagen

‘The judges were intrigued by the way the designers had taken a former industrial zone and optimised its exposure to view and water tocreate a new, holistic vision. The compelling coherence of the plan has within it the promise of a series of distinctive individual place.’
This competition’s brief specified sustainable urban development in the former harbour district for ‘40,000 residents, 40,000 jobs and 40,000 bicycles.’ This plan connects urban infrastructure, extends the city’s waterways and weaves open space into residential neighbourhoods and commercial zones.
Density planning enables a 90-hectare park to be built which will expand as land is reclaimed from the sea.
