Stucki Shopping Centre, Basel, Switzerland by Diener & Diener Architekten

Stucki

This is the new shopping centre, hotel and office building in Basel by Diener & Diener Architekten, featuring an entirely green roof

Stucki

The building is conceived as one main mass, broken up by the four towers (denoting entrance points to the building) which rise from the green planted roof of the mall. Another mass to the south of the development has a higher roof height, and houses the hotel.

The stark white facade is interspersed with plants that climb wires along the building. These are seasonal and will give the building a different appearance with the changing seasons.

The site boundaries touch a popular residential area of the city and an industrial zone. Therefore, the architects see the design as a mediation between the two.

Internally, the main thoroughfares of the mall are illuminated by huge circular skylights which can be seen meandering along the grass roof from above.
